PostSubject: DTS DRUM TUNING SYSTEM   Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:58 am

So today I switched out my heads and put back on my Evans Ec1's. It was time to tune my drums up again. My pops has taught me how to tune before but Im pretty lousy at it. I know alot of drummers take pride in tuning but i would rather spend my time playing and not tuning. So I came across the DTS drum tuning system in a magazine and then saw it at a local music shop. It really sparked my interest. So i did a little research. Theres not much info on them tho. Does anybody have any experience or thoughts on this little gadget? I think it would save time and make tuning easy and fun. The worst thing tho is the price $80 per drum eeeeeekkkk thats exspensive

That's just way more work (and money) than I'm willing to invest in tuning. I tune all my drums to please my ears.....and then I play! I don't consider it an exact science.

Wow, dude. You don't need all that crap to tune a drum. Even using a drum dial only gets you close. You still end up tuning around to get the sound you want. Tuning is all about going through the steps one by one. Which really means that you need a lot of patience to get it right, which is probably what your biggest roadblock is. Go to Bob Gatzens You-Tube tuning video's. And follow those step by step. It works every time. You don't need any fancy gizmo's that someone thinks works better than by just tuning by ear. Don't waste your money, man. Good luck, it's not that hard, it just takes time and patience to get it right and to get the sound that you want. You can do it. Cheers.

Ya I wouldn't buy a tuner either you can buy a new cymbal for the price of one of those. Also you don't buy one for each drum you use one for all drums. I tune by ear works just fine it takes me a while but I'm picky about it worth the time to me tho.

There was a little article in DRUM! last month talking about hits and misses in the industry over the years and the DTS thing was in listed in there, haha. Seemed like a good idea at the time but just too cumbersome to work right.
